"They Shall Not Grow Old" - see men and weapons of WWI in action

"They Shall Not Grow Old" is a 2018 British documentary film directed and co-produced by Peter Jackson. The film was created using original footage of World War I from the Imperial War Museums' archives, most of it previously unseen, alongside audio from BBC and IWM interviews of British servicemen who fought in the conflict. Most of the footage has been colourised and transformed with modern production techniques, with the addition of sound effects and voice acting to be more evocative and feel closer to the soldiers' actual experiences.

I've been looking forward to seeing this since I saw the preview for it a year ago. Some of the work they showed was amazing. A film that was jumpy and made everyone look cartoonish as they moved was cleaned up, slowed down, and colorized so it looked like it was shot recently.

It was shown on BBC Two last Sunday, here is the page:

Peter Jackson brings to life the story of World War I by transforming century-old footage.

BBC has geographic restrictions on streaming, I suggest getting a VPN or Tor.

It's very well done. Btw, the video is also available in other places.

VPN isn't going to help, BBC pulled it from their online player after 7 days, for "Rights Reasons".

The documentary about the horrors of the Great War, first broadcast on Remembrance Sunday, has been called the 'must watch' TV highlight of the year - but it vanished from iPlayer last night.

Yep, it won't help now, but it will help in the future for other programs they have streaming. I've watched a few things this way

People record these programs, including this one, and make them available online if you know where to look.

It is very good, first 30 minutes are in black and white and cover motivation for joining in and basic training, if you were in the service it will look and sound very familiar even after hundred years, then it transitions to color and actual WWI combat.
Peter Jackson is definitely a master storyteller, he deserves an Oscar for this documentary.

Fathom Events is showing it around the country on December 17 and 27. I'm going (probably without the Missus).
