Today's Sac Valley Shooting Center Vintage Silhouette Match

For those that missed the match today it was lots of fun with 37 shooters on the line. One shooter from the AAA class shot a 30 with a Swiss 1911...wow what a score. Good shooting.

Many various vintage military rifles from M96 Swedish, various Mosins variants, US 1917, 1903, 03-A3, Garands, all sorts of black rifles and even saw a green one. However my heart fell to a beautiful mint British Enfield No. 4 MK2.

I felt bad for Bob who were not able to shoot his beautiful Garand as his ammo would not chamber. Bob did you use the wrong die to size your brass?

Next match is the Semi Auto Match and this includes the "black rifles" on October 28th. See you then.

Oh man, I was there and didn't know this was going on. How can we find information about when the matches are and what rifles are good for entering?

For the Vintage Military Silhouette Match it's the third Saturday of each month weather permitting. Any military rifles (no magnum and FMJ ammo) including black rifle of your choice. However, match winner will only come from the As Issued WWII or earlier era rifles.

PM me if you have any question and I'll give you my number and we can discus.

Dam fun matches...I will be back someday. Shot the Ishapore 2a1 my first time. Since I now have a Finn M39 would love to let it smack the rams, need some OT 54r ammo though.

What are the distances, number of targets, shooting positions for either of these matches? Are these open to non members?

10 targets for each distances. You can shoot prone but if you have physical issues that prevent prone you can opt for bench. Only front bag (no mechanically adjustable front rest), no rear bag other than your hand. Open to everyone. Hope to see lots of new shooters this Sunday.
                  Distances:
                  Chickens: 200m
                  Pigs: 300m
                  Turkey: 385m
                  Ram: 500m

I am going to try to make it with my Ljungman. 40 rounds? Will hollow points work? I think I have enough ammo. What time on Sunday? How much? Do I need to sign up in advance? Which range number is it on? Thanks!

At www.sacvalley.org you can find the information you are asking. Yes, HP and or SP is permitted. FMJ NOT!
Great people at the range and everyone has a fun and safe shoot.
You can become addicted to the matches there.
You'll need to have at the least, 50 rounds. 40 silhouettes to knock down. The other 10 or more for dialing in.

Go to the link 0321jarhead and it'll tell you everything you need to know. Ljungman is a great gun and very accurate as I had one myself. However like all rifles without a windage adjustment in the rear sight it'll frustrate you when the prevailing left to right wind picks up and it'll blow your shots to the right.

As 0321jarhead already mentioned you will need 40 rounds for scoring. Since you've never done this before it might take you many rounds to get dialed in so I would bring at least 60-70 rounds just in case. It would be ugly if you run dry in the middle of the string of fire.

Very addicting indeed. I'm sure you will like it the first time you try it. Come Sunday and say hello to everyone and introduce yourself. Look for me with the large sombrero.

OK the Sac Valley calendar is virtually useless.

Range 6 on Sunday? Am I reading that right?

What is the cost? Get there at 8 I am guessing. Pay range fee, what is the cost of the match?

                          Anyway....see you all there.

                          Edit: Nevermind, found the info

Yes Sunday range #6. Try to make it before 08:00 as sometimes it fill up. It cost $20 including the steel fees.

Front bag/rest of your choice as long as it's not mechanical adjustable and no rear bag other than your hand. Have a shooting mat, spotting scope (not mandatory as you will be partnered with someone with a scope). No FMJ ammo 40 for scoring but I would bring around 60-70 rounds just in case it takes you a while to get dialed in.

If you've never done this match before it can be addicting. See you there.
