    Another gun show rifle

Well, the deal fell through on the Nazi Hi Power due to it just having too many issues with condition vs price. But towards the end of the show a fellow was walking buy with this P14 Enfield with a for sale sign and a question mark for the price. I looked it over, made him an offer and it came home with me.

I must admit that of all the rifles that have passed through my hands over the years, I have never actually owned one of these. Really, the only reason I picked this one up, was the overall excellent condition of the metal. Sometime in the past it was prettied up with a nice shiny coating of something like linspeed, but other than that it has largely remained Bubba free for the 100+ years of its existence.

In spite of myself, I seem to have started a small collection if British service arms and this one does seem right at home with UK/Commonwealth firearms.

Looks pretty good actually, though I don't know much about Enfield rifles.

What caliber is that chambered in?

Pattern 14 Enfields were all chambered in .303 British. While by and large they weren't issued to front line troops, the British did find that they made what was arguably the best sniper rifle of WWI.

How much? Besides the sniper use was there any other combat use of the P14 anywhere?

I have one I picked up for like $275 a Remington example about 3-4 years ago.

Interesting! Thank you for the lesson. I do have a thing for those WW1 bolt actions.

Looks like a grenade launcher sight base on the front left.

That is the base for the long range volley sight.

I have seen a picture of a Canadian soldier with one in the trenches, but so far that is all I've seen.

LOL... I, too have actually never owned a P-14... Never seen one at a price and condition which I liked.

That looks like a nice one. I don't think Bubba messed with it. Looks to me like just a old arsenal finish.

Good luck finding the volley sights...

Congrats Hightower, the P14 is a great rifle that you will enjoy shooting. It is long but has a nice balance and a great rear peep sight. I prefer to flip the peep up for better target practice. You can find the rear volley sight on ebay, but the pointers for the front sight are more difficult. They are all marked by the manufacturer, so if you're looking for a Remington marked peep You may be in for a wait. You can pick up a really nice reproduction pointer from EFD http://www.efdrifles.com/components_price_list.php and it looks like you might already have the screw and spring washer for it.

How's the bore? If I were to own any of the .303 Rifles, it would be the P 14.

Nice P 14 even if it is an arsenal refinish.

Back in the 1980's, I had a chance to buy a beautiful 4 digit Winchester P 17. I didn't do it and often regret not buying it.

The bore is shiney and I can't see any pits. While the stock has certainly been refinished, I suspect by a previous owner, I am pretty sure that the metal still has its original bluing.

To answer I Swans question, I paid $400 for it.
