    Don't forget the:
    FN-49
    Mas-44
    Mas-49/56
    VZ-52
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

        Swedish AG-42 Ljungman

and also the mas 44 is pretty much the mas 49, that why I called it the mas 49 because it covers the 44, 49 and 49/56

Except for a very, very, small few Yugos, the Russian SKS is the only C&R eligible simonov pattern rifle....

CMP is probably your best bet to start saving and getting your eligibility efforts inline. They have entry-level prices on Garands...

Early Romanian SKS rifles -- those made in 1957 and 1958 -- are also C&R eligible in Cali.

Is there an easy way to determine year of manufacture on Romanian rifles?

Mine is dated. I don't remember offhand where the date is stamped -- unfortunately I am at work, and not at the range, or in front of my safe! And, in fact, have not even looked at my SKS in a few months...

Here's a page that shows the date stamped next to the serial number: http://yooperj.com/SKS-24.htm. That comports with my memory, although it does say that some Romys are undated, which would make calling such a rifle C&R dicey in California...

EDIT: To follow up, when I got home, I dove into the safe, pulled out my Romy SKS, and it is date stamped just like in the pictures in the website listed -- the date is stamped next to the serial number on the left side of the receiver. Not saying all of them are dated -- by mine is.
