A buddy of mine who is a long-time gunsmith with a large collection wants to sell me a rare Mauser variant. It's a 17" carbine made post-war in 7.62 NATO (which I have heaps of) and I think it's very neat.
It looks exactly like this one right here:
He says he wants to sell it to me for a "good price". I know these are pretty rare and it's in great shape, but I do intend to shoot the thing (don't want to put wear on some uber-valuable museum piece) and I don't want to spend a fortune on it.
What do they go for? Are they $600 rifles (that's kinda what I'm seeing from old buy/sell threads) or $5000+ auction pieces? The one I'm looking at has Century Arms import markings on the barrel and the buttpad is a real mess so it's not absolutely 100% factory fresh, but it is pretty nice.
