Make friends with an old guy who has been collecting since the 1960s, stopped around 1998, isn't married, and has no kids.

The deals are all dried up for those who expect a daily email inbox full of great deals. Same for those who never click past the first page of google results.

Deals are still out there in some abundance, but it takes effort and time to check multiple sources on a frequent basis.

On the other hand, it is easier for some folks to just complain about the deals being all gone, and then go have a nap.

Another bonus with the C&R license and COE is you can buy ammo on-line!
(Not all of them do however)

The deals are most certainly out there, but knowledge is King. Buy books, read forums, study markings. This way whether you are searching for a rifle or one happens to cross your path you know what it is. Be patient don't chase prices. Just because someone says it is worth X doesn't mean it can't be purchased for 1/2x.

This is an example of a recent purchase of mine. I was the only one in the auction house who knew what it was.

I hear this one a lot:

"These are going for $xxxx on Gunbroker."

                -Or

"Last BTT and then off to Gunbroker.."

There is a big difference between pie in the sky asking prices and what people are actually willing to pay. I'd say 1/2 or more of the stuff people list there gets relisted repeatedly without ever being sold.

Auctions are a great source of items at times, but it is a fantasy to think that an RC K98 or Garand parts gun is going to cause a feeding frenzy among wealthy buyers just waiting to throw money at you.

Buy for historical collection, or general collection as it'll be expensive to shoot them nowadays due to ammo restrictions.

                  Me myself, I'm still eyeing a K98K, Arisaka, 1903A3, and Enfield Mk4. All I have is the K31 and a Mosin M44.

different guns for different folks. Some collect black powder like i do and others collect military surplus. to each his own if it is what makes him happy and he is not harming anyone with them. It is or can be preservation of history. I say go for it and welcome to the group.

Buy exactly what you want, be sure to research as much as possible about what it is you want before you buy it. After you get what you want, you can begin to narrowing your focus.

Wear a too tight Mt Dew shirt and they will pay you double on RC Mausers.
