BOF 961 Confirmation

If one sends in the BOF 961 or do the Collector In-State Acquisition
of Curio or Relic Long Gun Report via CFARS, does one get a letter in the mail from DOJ confirming it's entered into the AFS? If so, how long?

Yes, the DOJ BOF will send you a letter confirming your entry. It usually takes a while (couple months) since they were pretty bogged down from AW registrations. I guess they started doing them in batches since I got 3 confirmations in 1 envelop on 7/21 for rifles I submitted separately on 02/23, 04/16, and 05/30.

Anytime I have snail mailed the BOF 961 form I would pay with personal check. Check will post as paid within 7 days of mailing so I know they are processing form. DOJ is in no hurry to mail the confirmation, they will get around to it... eventually...

They've been averaging about 5 months to get the letter to me. The last ones I did were through CFARS and that didn't speed the process up at all.

I think they forgot about my input from Dec or I didn't get the letter.
I did a 1898 Krag made in 1902 and I think they are confused thinking it was made in 1898

I have experienced getting nothing for some time, and then finally an envelope with several acknowledgement letters spanning months.

Personal Check is the best way to go. No other way to track it really. You can send certified to track but it is a needless expense.
