    Exempt Barrel Length Rifles

Recently someone posted a list rifles with shorter than 16" barrels that were exempt from the 16" minimum requirement. Does anyone know if the FN Model 1924 Mexican Carbine is one of those exempt rifles. It is listed as having a barrel length of 15 1/4" with an overall length of 35 1/4" and chambered in 7x57mm Mauser. Any chance anyone has one if so please post pics.

Isn't barrel length measured from closed bolt face to crown? That would include cartridge length, correct?
That would put in over 16 inches.

To start with, please verify barrel length. To verify the barrel length:
1.) Verify the chamber is clear,
2.) closed the bolt on the action,
3.) Using a cleaning rod, insert the rod down the barrel (from the muzzle end) and mark the rod at the crown of the muzzle with a piece of tape or pen, etc..
4.) remove the rod from the barrel and measure the length of the rod from the end to the mark.
5.) if the measurement is over 16" you are good to go. If the measurement is under 16", I don't want to know.

It is not listed on the ATF C&R lists as being removed from the NFA. (last reviewed by ATF on 08-07-2018)

They were made with a 16" barrel.
I think Saigon1965 has one in his Mex Mauser collection.

Maybe the way it is listed in Mauser Military Rifles of the World and the way it is measured for the law are two different things. I see them for sale, but I wasn't sure if they were brought in prior to the law. I may have a chance to import one and wanted to make sure it would pass muster. Hopefully it is 16". If anyone can confirm that would be great. Looks like it has been confirmed it is not exempt if it is under 16" and thus not importable.

If one is in California consider the state law prohibiting rifles with barrels shorter than 16” or an overall length of less than 26”.

NJ has same law. Didn't think about that. Basically it has to be 16". Hoping someone with one can clarify.

Do you mean the Ca law that prohibits SBRs but has an exemption for C&R SBRs?

I don't have access to my photos of her but on Gunboards there are many posts regarding this MX Mauser -

Maybe, but never for the important things, like what did I have for dinner?
                      Found these pics, look familiar?
