An interesting picture of one of my 1897's firing a black powder blank.
These burn a little slower than smokeless and you capture a good flash on film.
The irony is, that a far heavier smokeless load will make an earth shattering bang shake the dust out of the rafters, scrape the neighbors, but the flash will be so fast that the camera doesn't capture it.
I think it was likely a longer exposure, so made the flame look bigger.
It's firing just to the side of the Camera, just another day at the office.
