    More Webley MK VI questions...:)

I did pick up a MK VI with a shaved cylinder and am now working on making rounds for it using .45 auto rim cases with Webley .455 LRNHB bullets. The problem is that this combination will not yield a finished round with the same (or near to same) overall length as the .45ACP/RM rounds it was modified to take.

Before I go any further I will say up front that the attached photos were taken with the Webley action broken open and either snap caps or dummy rounds made of a bullet and a case with an empty primer pocket and no powder (trying to figure out my configuration before making live rounds).

If I press the bullet to the crimp groove then I yield a round that is 1.439” in overall length. It does not protrude from the cylinder (see photo) but is very close to the barrel...much closer than the .45ACP in a moon clip (again, see photo). If I go past the crimp groove then I yield 1.389” but I have a taper crimp and the round looks a little off. Any thing farther than that and the case ends up flared outward. Can I run with the 1.439” with out issue?

New to crafting my own ammo so forgive my ignorance if this is rudimentary stuff and, as always, I am grateful for all the feedback.

As long as it doesn't stick out and bind the cylinder, you should be fine.

Remember, these were not made to use .45ACP, but .455.

          What he said.

The only thing that I would watch for is the bullets getting bumped farther out of the case under recoil. I have only had this happen a handful of times with various oddball revolver cartridges. If you do see it, you can increase your crimp to hold them better. But the recoil on that shouldn't be enough to loosen them. Just inspect the fronts of the chambers after you fire each shot, but before you recock the gun for the first few rounds. If it doesn't happen then, it is unlikely to down the road. The nice thing is that if that happens, it is a lot easier to clear in a Webley than most other revolbers. You just pop the top latch and dump them out.

The main thing regarding overall length is that you are changing the case capacity which will affect pressure a bit. Are you using Unique?
Everyone on Calguns keeps talking about TDS. I never knew we had so many fish keepers!

The TDS on my 10gallon tanks 110ppm
The TDS on my 29 gallon tank is 150ppm (due to substrate)

Several of the loads I have found use Hodgdon HS-6. Others use Unique. Still others using Blue Dot. All using the .45 Auto Rim case and 265gr LRNHB.

I was going to start with the HS-6 (because I can also load for my S&W 625 as Hornady lists load data using HS-6 for .45ACP/AR).

                Bad idea?

No, was just curious. I only ever found loads for Unique and Bluedot (mike beliveau from guns of the old west has a few write ups).

I use 45 autorim like you but use a 260gr semi wadcutter thats .454 diameter.

Well I guess I will proceed with HS-6 and report back.

I load 45 Autorim and find that Trailboss works well with a 250 grain bullet, very soft gentle loads, plenty accurate at 25 yards.
