Well.... not truly an impulse buy, but I was minding my own business and not actively looking for this when a good friend sent me the auction link. A Winchester 1894 chambered for 38-55 has long been on my wish list, but like I said I wasn't actively looking for one at the moment. I got the link about 4-5 hours before the auction ended, and let it expire without any bids. I then watched the relisted auction, and while I was mulling it over and waiting for the clock to expire a second time, my buddy goes off and contacts the Cody museum...... and it letters. Kinda had to do it after that.
Anyway, a 1901 Winchester 1894 rifle with half octagon/half round barrel, Lyman rear tang sight, with really nice original bluing and a fair amount of case coloring left on the finger lever and other parts. Wood to metal fitment is tight, and wood is proud of the metal. Screw heads are really nice, front and rear sights are original, and the bore mics out to .379 and is stunning.
This is one beautiful Winchester.
