The big box stores have killed the market for entry level long arms and the desire to have only the latest and greatest in firearms has killed the trade market.
I used to swap firearms all the time with the local gunshops but now it seems that the interest in older (but not collectable) firearms is pretty dead. I haven't been in a gun shop in a year at least because everything for sale is high speed polymer and aluminum.
Also, the gun glut isn't helping retailers. Everyone has multiple firearms it seems and just how many can one person own? I've got several safes full of guns I haven't shot in years.Comment

Many factors come to play in this day and age. Myself, I don't care for new, and hella miss cash & carry.......BTW...I have 9 vehicles (down from 15) and I'm at least a year behind in live fire function testing. The big box stores have killed the market for entry level long arms and the desire to have only the latest and greatest in firearms has killed the trade market.

I'm a gun junkie since a 5 dollar Mossberg M44 US, came out of the surplus pit for my 8th birthday, from my Pops, and an Arisaka T38 capture was given to me by my Unks the same year, 1960. I still have dealings with all my old buds, but alas, no mas milsurp like before, or nice C&R, not as often. PAXYou need a crew

That's because the market is saturated with police trade ins, and people are not as big fans of .40 as they were before...Comment

Just yesterday I went to a local shop looking for a 223 shell holder. A fellow calgunner pretty much gave a set of 223 dies as I am tooling up to reload 223. With the new internet ammo purchase restrictions I would think common reloading gear would be something LGS would stock up on. The counter guy then reassured me that anything I need, they can order...
I took a short ride to the Stockton Sportsman Warehouse...
Can't say I did not try to support the small guys...NRA Member

That's a great point. There are hundreds of gun-related items we need that aren't ruled by gun laws, including safes, gun parts, targets, holsters, reloading supplies, cleaning supplies, ....
Yes, many of those are cheaper on the internet, but shipping costs and "I need it now" are often more critical than product prices.BillComment

That's true, I actually do alright selling eotechs and aimpoint pros and tlr-7s and can sell them for less than you can get online, so that's a win win for everybody. Once the new sales tax rules come down and get implemented (everybody pays sales tax on internet purchases no matter what) it'll put us on a more even playing field as well. Got 3 Aimpoint PROs in this week in fact, you just reminded me I need to list them!!That's a great point.
