Not your average Yugo Mauser

Saw this posted on another forum from a local seller and stand up guy that I've purchased from before. First thought was "huh, never heard of that" second thought was "I'll take it"

It has a funky metal tack on the grip and some white paint/chalk on the crest that I'm working on but I do love me the wood grain in these Yugo made rifles.

While I was researching this one and before I picked it up, I learned about the Syrian variant. Lo and behold the next day I walked in to my LGS and snagged one. It is still in the "30 day" period for consignment before I can take it home but it is just as nice or nicer than this one so they should make a nice pair.

Thats an Iraqi crest. Not syrian. Probably a Fed Ordinance import rifle. The Syrians had a different crest on their M48 contract rifles.

Started its life as an unmarked, no crest, M48.

Yes, what I meant to say was, after I locked up this Iraqi, I was researching them and learned about the Syrian, went into LGS next day and found a Syrian.

So previously I had no idea about these variants and then within about a 3-4 day period I've got one of each. Kinda funny how that works sometimes.

These are truly an amazing value. I still have a few Yugo crested NIB's.



And one I put three 200g SMK's through using the G43 sight hood improved the front sight picture.

I glommed a Hashemite crest M48 years back and then a few years later found a Syrian M48. They are interesting Mausers.

Had a chance to visit the Syrian today, should be picking it up next week. It is all matching, no cracks, nice crest.

My first ever C&R I purchased when I turned 18 in 1993 was a Yugo

Still have it, looks to be unissued and came with all the accessories.
