    Renew COE On Line?

I haven't received my COE renewal form from DOJ and the current one expires 17 July 18. I've had a COE for about 8 years and from past experience it takes more than 30 days turnaround once I submit completed paperwork. I'd imagine DOJ is busier than normal this year.

Is there a way to submit renewal through DOJ online?

What is a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)? A “Certificate of Eligibility” certifies the Department of Justice (DOJ) has checked its records and determined the recipient is not prohibited from acquiring or possessing firearms at the time the firearms eligibility criminal background check was performed.

Heads up …! - I understand now, and this from a DOJ Agent … the CA DOJ will no longer send out C.O.E. Renewal Reminders. They are leaving renewal time line up to Licensees … so … you need to set your reminder on your phone, or calendar or whatever. It's all up to YOU now to KNOW when you need to renew COE.

I talked to ATF and they are still sending reminders for your FFL License.

They (CA) are hoping you forget and then drop off the face of the CA COE map.

EFFINGGG California … and who is Ca. AG now ??? EFFING Becerra …!

CFARS - thanks. I forgot about that, had registered when I contemplated what to do with my "AWs".

Was easy to do, took about 5 minutes to complete and pay on line.

My expiration date used to be on 30 July, evidently last year DOJ went with my submission date of 17 July - lost two weeks. I wonder if they'll go with today's submission date, or the date they send or keep 17 July.

You won't lose your month. The new expiration date is the same as the old one, just one year later. I did mine on line last month.

Just be sure to download and print your own copy. They won't send you one.

I let the spam fairy dump my doj email and didn't figure it out for about a month.....

Does CA DOJ even send out a renewal package anymore? I'm fine if they don't but seems to me alot of folks used to getting that renewal form in the mail will end up expiring.

NO - They (DOJ) DO NOT send renewal notices - and they did not inform me of this. I called when I hadn't received renewal notice, as I usually used to receive around Sept or Oct, and was at that time they informed me of this fact.

They are NOT going to inform anyone of this. Either you know and find out on your own, or you don't. They don't care.

Again, it is UP TO YOU to know when you expire and up to you to initiate renewal process.

Once you expire, what is the recourse?

You have 90 days to renew after it expires.......otherwise you have to go through the application process again

I'm fine with being expected to know when to renew. That's how most licenses are handled. However for the past 10 years they sent me a form, I think they should have done some sort of notice. Now the good news ....

I submitted on line last Thursday, checked CFARS today and it's been processed. And the expiration date didn't get bumped forward.

It must be hit and miss. My expiration is in May, and I got a renewal notice. I didn't have a CFARS account until I renewed this time though...maybe that's the difference?

I'll be putting it on my calendar regardless.

My COE will expire in Oct. His highness Xavier B sent me a reminder last year. I guess he is cheaping out on postage cost to mail out reminders. I have a CFARS account so I will stay on it and take care of business...

I did receive a renewal notice. They strongly suggested renewing online.
