Here's a wealth of info on the Enfield. Wiki also had good pages on other items.

Seems like you have a Mk1?

You would have a #2, assuming this is the date penciled on the side. If I recall, by the 50's, only #2 were made and they were converting older #1's to the #2 trigger configuration.

Jesse...is the "5/43 date" you referenced penciled on the side? Let us know what you come up with. Not sure how the "50's" came about?

Ugg, need to revise my post - I thought I saw the stated date as 5/53, which is the date of my #2!!!

              In this case, a 1943 should be a #1.

sorry for the confusion, its been a difficult week.

                Yeah....

I just dropped it off at the gunsmith to have the chamber polished.... for some reason the brass gets "wedged" tightly after firing....? Hopefully the polishing will take care of that....I saw some "pitting"....

As for the date, correct it is 5/43 ... beautiful rifle.

                Jesse!

PS I got another one too.... US Savage Arms.... (US Property)

                  Enfield (Part 2)

I just got my US Property (Savage Arms) Enfield in nearly purfect condition...I will be taking it to the range to "break it in" .... as for the Brithish...I had to return it... the firing chamber was pitted and trashed....(gun smith told me its unrepairable)...I'm getting another one in about 5 to 7 days.... another US Property (Saage Arms)

                  Jesse!

PS Big5 has a whole bunch of US Property Enfields for $179 to $229...
