    Arisaka Question..

So is there a way that I could look up the serial number of a Arisaka rifle and see who it was issued too in combat? Just for curiosity purposes...

I was wondering if any records were kept and later released..

it's not too hard if you examine the fine details on your rifle.

I once came across a particular specimen with deep marks along the finger grooves of the stock. It was later that we determined it was due to the user's fingernails. Whatever he and the rifle saw, it was scary and he was very nervous.

The rifle is regarded as Imperial (Emporer's) personal property, so every rifle was taken cared of with much regard. The ones with severe damage generally happened after the war.

It's hard enough getting an estimate about the time of production on an Arisaka, let alone a unit. Occasionally, if you are lucky, an original sling will have unit information or a rack number. Saw a Type 38 with a sling that had a submarine number on it once.

yeah, i'd look at the markings to find out what arsenal and series it is, that'll give you a good idea about when it was made. can't remember where i got the info but mine's a Toyo Kogyo, series 32 or 37, can't remember. if nothing else, google "Arisaka Rifle Identification" you'll get a good hit sooner or later. surplusrifleforum is a very good source though.
