    SVW45 P38 Gray Ghost

Hey guys, I picked this up this weekend, at a local shop that generally has a bunch of surplus guns for sale. It's an SVW45 code P38, which I'm told is Mauser. It's all matching, has the proper JVD code, WaA706 magazine, and has a really nice shiny bore. It's Bundes Heer marked, meaning it was issued to an Austrian soldier. From what I can tell these SVW guns have a neat history behind them! My serial number block was made by the Nazis in late 1945, assembled by the French in 1946 for my K block, and in my case, issued to Austria. It has a neat set of metal grips, and it seems to be in pretty decent condition all around. The only downside is a small import mark under the barrel, which most of these variants tend to have. From what I can tell also, it's absent of Waffenampts on the firearm itself, and just has one on the magazine, and has the French star marking on a few parts. What does something like this generally go for? I was able to get this one for $799 plus taxes and background, and with my FFL03/COE was able to take it home same day . Is mine any less common, being Bundes Heer marked?

Very nice - yours in superb condition - I was always very intrigued by the metal grips on these. Nice collectable.

Your price is reasonable considering it is CA. Great shape as most are beat up and poorly maintained. It has the French star acceptance stamp instead of the German stamps.

The SVW 45 pieces are interesting and collectible. Sort of the transition piece in between wartime guns and post war guns. In good shape and mechanical condition, that is a fair price. I would look for a post war P-1 as a shooter and keep that piece as a collector, although it by all means could be a shooter as well.

They're definitely interesting. I think I'll still enjoy this at the range from time to time as well. Looks like it'd be a good shooter also.

I think many of these were also used by the French in Vietnam, and at Dien Bien Phu 1954 era.

Can I ask what store? Always looking for places that carry a decent collection of C&R.

Of course. Gunslingers, in Glendora. They generally have somewhat of a decent selection normally.

I'm sure they were, It'd make sense. Wonder how many made it back!
