    California Colt

Here is something a bit different from my recent 1911 posts:

This Colt Officers Model Target was shipped to the Union Hardware and Metal Company, Los Angeles, CA on March 28, 1930. 1930 was the first year for the OMT and this particular gun is very early having a three digit serial number.

Union Hardware and Metal Co. was first organized in 1872 and was a growing and prosperous business for many years, selling a wide array of products, including iron, steel and sheet metals, railroad and mining supplies, pipe, tubular goods, pipe fittings and brass goods, blacksmiths supplies, wood stock and hardwood lumber, mechanics' tools. Sierra cutlery, builders', shelf and heavy hardware, coal, coke, pig iron, house furnishing goods, tin and graniteware.

The excellence of that gun is only rivaled by the quality of those photos! Very nice.

            Outstanding!
Would love to hear where and how you find these firearms.

according to my trusty 1940 Shooter's Bible copy gold and ivory bead front sights were a special order option. $1.00. "Patridge" sights were standard.

Very nice and a California connection!

I once had a SW HD .38/44 that lettered to a store in L.A. from the 30s. I bought the revolver in Glendale in the 90s and I was surprised to see how close it stayed to where it was purchased.

I really love the lines of the .38/44 frame - I like the 4" barrel silhouette, too!

Thanks Pit. Note the alteration to the sights on mine. Someone on the SW forum said that he had seen the same alteration to a SW of the same vintage so someone of the era was doing it on a more than one-off basis.

Someone just had to have the revolver so I moved it on to him.
