    Electronic COE submission

I recently got my COE renewal letter in the mail. Today I did the electronic renewal on CFARS. It looks like it went through okay but it doesn't say how long for a new certificate.

Has anyone done an electronic renewal and is it any faster than sending in the paper renewal?

    Thanks

It took a couple of weeks to get the hard copy.

My COE expired in February. I sent in payment and the form (by mail) beginning of December.

I kid you not, CFARS was telling me I needed documentation if I wanted to change my gender in the online info. I had made no changes to anything whatsoever. So "F" CFARS, I'll just do it by mail.

I started trying to ask about it after getting nothing towards the end of January. Got an email saying that I'm not allowed to inquire until 3 months after sending in the renewal. My COE expired. I sent more email beginning of March. And called and arranged a "We'll call you back".

So, I got an email explaining that my COE had been reissued long ago and I have to go online to CFARS, find it there and then print out my new COE.

I would never have known that they are no longer mailing them.

CFARS was hell to set up, but I persisted, never the less. And eventually got through it all. No sex change was necessary.

And then I got the telephone call back and I said we're good thanks a lot.

Should (should!) be easier next year.

What is a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)? A “Certificate of Eligibility” certifies the Department of Justice (DOJ) has checked its records and determined the recipient is not prohibited from acquiring or possessing firearms at the time the firearms eligibility criminal background check was performed.

Took a couple of weeks for the update in the system.

I sent a email with all info to cfars, got a reply that everything is on track, and the system is just backed up.

Thanks for the replies. So far, I'm not impressed with the CFARS system. Kept saying I had an error but it took some time to figure it out as it wasn't very obvious.

Hopefully I fixed it. They were more than happy to take my money at checkout though...even with the error still present.

I guess I'll just have to keep checking back in after a couple of weeks for the certificate.

I renewed my COE in mid-March. It took about 10 days to be posted as renewed. It took about another 2 or 3 days after posting before the State sent me an E-mail about the renewal status.

One item of note. If you are renewing early, the State extends from your existing end date and does not short or penalize you for the early renewal.

Be sure you update your COE expiration date in your CFARS user profile after your new COE is issued. Otherwise the next time you go to register a C&R purchase, it will get kicked back to you after a few weeks.

Thanks for the tip, I never would have known changing the date was necessary. Isn't this sort of thing why we invented computers?

I also see the space next to the COE entry for a FFL number and exp date.

Is entering my C&R FFL a good idea also? I attempted this but the space for the number is shorter than my FFL number. More confusion?

Yes, it is a real forehead slapper. Typical DOJ though.

Enter it with no dashes or spaces. I just checked my user profile, and I must have done it at some point because it is there.
