    Bren Gun

Recently picked up a semi-auto Bren gun. Not quite a "C&R" legally speaking, but the designs and the kits these guns are built from were used in past historical military conflicts. The one here is a Bren Mk. II made by John Inglis Co. in Canada.

Very fun to shoot. Recoil is quite mild despite firing full power 303 British due to the overall mass of the gun. I think I'm getting into the "light machine gun semi auto rebuild" bug lately. Maybe next up is a Madsen M1946 LMG and a semi-auto DPM?

Awesome guns. Thanks for letting me shoot one, even though I'm a lefty. Awesome "dual wield"!

As for DP28 vs DPM, I prefer the 28. No goofy recoil spring housing sticking out the back and no need for a grip wrap. The grip safety on the 28 is a little annoying, I may fix mine closed one day. Also the RP46 isn't really "correct" on a 28 even though it'll work just fine.

That's just hotness! Thanks for letting me shoot one also. Pretty darn accurate too!

Is there video of a goofball firing ten shots from the hip?

Thanks again for letting me try it out, it shot great using the sights, but I had to just try it from the hip!

I love my Bren gun. Had it built to shoot 54R (MUCH cheaper than .303 or .308) I registered it (after MUCH hassle) so I didn't have to have the horrible grip wrap on it.
DP28 is nice because it is naturally featureless (having dealt with the FH), but yeah the grip safety is a pain on that one.

They are EXTREMELY accurate. In fact too accurate. There are stories from WWII about soldiers preferring worn in barrels so all the rounds don't wind up going through the same hole. Not sure if it's true, but very accurate nonetheless.

With enough coaxing, I'd be open to bringing mine out to the CalGuns Shoot on the 2nd Fri down in Laguna Niguel for folks to shoot (I'll bring the ammo!)

I've read that despite the offset sights the Bren is (even during automatic fire) an especially accurate weapon of the type.

7.62x54R is getting expensive too! Eventually I would like to build up my Mk. I kit to shoot 308. I can reload that caliber fairly inexpensively.

I have a friend with a full auto Zb26 which is similar to the BREN. It's been converted to shoot 7.62x39mm

The Chinese did a ton of these conversions.

I don't know if it's possible for the BREN though..

Very nice rifles by the way!!

Yeah .308 makes more sense for that. I bought a TON of 54R before the embargo at .22 per. so... 54r for me. I have a few LMG's in that cal.

Those Brens looked sweet and were awesome to shoot. It was fun to watch people shoot them from the hip using a sling to support it.

Is that a MG42 in the background of the first pic?
