Another uncommon one - G98/40

Following up on the High Power I just posted, here's another uncommon piece. It's a G98/40, manufactured by FEG (Hungary) for Nazi Germany in 1944.

It's the first Mannlicher type rifle I've owned, and I was surprised to notice it's a cock on close design. All matching and unmolested. It'll be at WEGC tomorrow

I've heard of the extractor weakness as well. After seeing people jury rig Viguero extractors into these I have decided to take it easy on this one. It'll see very infrequent range time.

Thanks! The G98/40 was built under contract for the Wehrmacht starting in 1941. The Hungarians produced the 43M, a very similar rifle, for themselves.

They used everything, even non standard caliber weapons. The non standard caliber stuff went to line of communication troops and occupying forces. Lee Enfields, MAS 36s, Norwegian Krags and Norwegian 1914 .45s...they all were type classified as captured arms and reissued.

Anything that used standard caliber rounds went to the front lines.

I had one, and they are nice guns. Again, don't ever break an extractor on one. They are for all purposes non existant on the parts market. I shot mine a little, and then sold it. Cool guns that you shoot with a hint of caution.

That's the nicest one I've seen. Love those un-messed with laminated stocks!!
