    7MM Mauser

Hi C&R types. While estate sailing last December 31st, I came up on a 50 cal ammo can of 7MM Mauser, silver tip FMJ, brass cases, marked "DWM 37". Any good? I don't know squat about Mauser anything really, but I presume it's for small ring actions, such as a 1916 Spaniard and others. Do I need to find a gun for it? PAX

If you don't already have one it's a great excuse to buy anything chambered in 7x57. Maybe more than one?? Great caliber!!

Yes, and they're the most reasonably priced FN49's. People get weird about 7mm, maybe an availability thing. It's a great round.
            C&R nut.

there's a fairly good chance that the rounds will be click-bang. Most of the 7mm ammo went to hot/wet environments and didn't stand up well to prolonged storage. It is also corrosive primed.

7mm and 7.65mm were the predominant cartridges throughout central and south America.

PAX means what?, Venny is a type, style, brand of the FN49 rifle?

                No mention about the 1895?

Which FN49 would be the preferred 7mm to look into?

Damn it! Started looking for one to go with my Egyptian 8MM. They are cheaper. If I chance upon on around $600-$700 I'm on it. That's only 2 SKSs. PAX

I agree about the 7x57 being a great round, not so much about the Venezuelan FN49 being the most reasonably priced. IME, the Egyptian 8x57 is cheaper.

If you are going to shoot corrosive ammo in a gas gun like the FN 49, be sure you know how to thoroughly clean to gas system.

Cannot shoot that ammo on blm or at many ranges. It is magnetic.

Ag country bud. You mean you don't have a half dozen country places to shoot, besides milsurp friendly ranges? It's actually a different country here.

But I'll prolly use it as trade fodder for Commie boolits or whatnot. Unless of course something interesting that eats it falls in my lap. From my quickie research, the Spanish guns are the most heavily reworked milsurp bolt guns, but I'd jump on a correct cavalry carbine, or a full stocked commercial Mannlicher. At least they're in my heap now. PAX

You're right, the Egyptian 8mm's are cheaper. The Century rebuilds hurt their value.
