    Colt ID Opinions Needed

I have a friend that needs to have a Colt 45 SAA ID'd.

I know enough about the early stuff to know I can't afford them.

Attached is a pic, and the SN is 235XX. I did look it up in the Colt data base for the year and came up with possibily 1876 and 1895??

Can anyone offer a little help??

Can't seem to get the pic to upload?? Using file management and it's not working??

It does have a set of grips with a raised eagle on one side. It also looks like it's either been buffed out or it came originally unblued??
    Hope it's not a copy...

It didn't come originally unblued. Possibly nickle plated, but not unfinished. That should be in the black powder range. Check the left side of the frame for possible US stampings.

Pics would help a lot.., but by the 5 digit serial number it is an early black powder, and it probably has the script writing on the barrel. Very collectible.

        pic failure

Wish I could get this thing to work, but it keeps giving a failure. I even resized the pics thinking they were too large, but no... same thing. Does someone know if having too many pics uploaded to the board could be the problem?? I have just over 3 megs.

On the Colt. It has the gate and eject slide for the empties. So it gotta be cartridge. Still could be BP?? I asked for pics of the barrel labeling but so far haven't gotten them. The matching serial numbers show considerable wear. That's why I thought it might have been buffed out. The finish looks good. Not like a 150 year old gun... The grips are white with the eagle on the RH side. Not sure if they are aftermarket plastic or ivory without physically handling the gun..

Thanks for the info so far...

Early 1st Gen BP, appears to have been re-nickled some time back, looks to be a professional job. A Colt letter would tell if it was originally nickle, and if they did the refinish.
