Garand prices

I see a lot of M1 Garands going for more than $1000. In fact, last night on GB, I searched specifically for H&R M1s, knowing they were post war. Still, I saw many at $1000 or more. So why would someone pay that kind of money when the CMP sells service grade for $730? I have an H&R service grade that I want to sell, but I would think selling at or below the CMP is more reasonable. Anyone know?

CMP is a great deal BECAUSE the secondary market is hot. Some people think it’s too complicated.

Keep in mind if person does not have C&R and COE the additional costs associated with purchasing Notary, sales tax, DROS, FFL fees for CA anyhow. Price can come close to that $1000.00.

Last year I bought a RM1SPECIALFIELD (Price $830) before they sold out. It has a 53' receiver, a new stock and a new barrel. Do I care? Nope - it shoots like a dream!

USGI, beautiful original condition. I saw two of them from the recent batch, lock bar sights, crisply cartouched wood, nice metal. One was a Winchester too. Did you see this thread?

Everyone at WEGC saw Jeff's Garands - those are also from the recent batch I'm talking about.

Obviously I can't guarantee that's what you'll get but what I've been seeing is excellent.

The last three I got from CMP have been awesome. Beautiful GI wood, low TE/ME and milled parts.

But to the OP question: tax and transfer fee adds up for most people, plus affiliate membership and notary fee/hassle. And you still never know what will show up from The CMP. So for some buyers, it is worth $1000+ in a PPT to know exactly what you are getting and not hassle with the paperwork. And when the CMP does run out, there is always the question of them ever having more again. That is when prices spike north of $1200.

You don't need expensive grease for the M1. Get a 1lb tub of Walmart wheel bearing grease for about $5. It'll run your rifle like a Swiss watch and last at least 10 lifetimes. To an M1, grease is grease is grease. Yes, I use Walmart grease on all of mine and have NEVER had problem one

Being a non citizen means I cant do the CMP thing. there are bound to be a few more of me out there. Desperately want one of the 7.62 x 51 Garands too

I bought an H&R Special .308 Garand because I didn’t want to add another caliber. It was about $1000 and something out the door. I sold a GP100 and ponied up some hard to find cash to get the rest. No regrets what so ever. It brings a smile to my face each time I shoot it. I am not a collector and have no interest in another Garand. The one I have is enough.
