CMP Requirements question

Does the California Hunters Safety Class meet the requirement for the CMP Firearms or Marksmanship Related Activities?

I know the course I took last year with my son had a live fire element in it, but does the CMP recognize this?

Well, here is the requirements.

Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity:
You must provide proof of participation in a marksmanship related activity or otherwise show familiarity with the safe handling of firearms and range procedures. Your marksmanship related activity does not have to be with highpower rifles; it can be with smallbore rifles, pistols, air guns or shotguns. Proof of marksmanship participation can be provided by documenting any of the following:

- Current or past military service.
- Current or past law enforcement service
- Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin).
- Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor).
- Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status.
- Concealed Carry License.
- Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training.
- FFL or C&R license.
- Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training.

Sure sounds like it would meet the requirements. I'd say that it may benefit you to call CMP to confirm if you wanted to.

it only meets the requirements if the class has the live fire component. The last option is the easiest one, and that is to go to the range and have the RO check the list off and sign you off

If your hunter safety class is not accepted you can always go to an Appleseed. They are a CMP club and can sign off your forms. An Appleseed is a lot of fun and the training can help you break a lot of bad habits. You will be amazed how much better you can shoot after attending one.

There is an Appleseed in Fresno this weekend if you want to make the drive. Walk ons are allowed and the Sunday portion is the most fun as you get to practice what you learned on Saturday.

They will still take it w/o a live fire component. Back before I had my C&R I sent them a hunter saftey w/o live fire and let them know and they were fine with it. Things may have changed but CMP is usually understanding.
