We always referred to them as 3"-50's. In the top pic I posted it appears to read "3 IN-50 CAL" Have to admit I don't quite understand the designation. I wasn't a Gunner's Mate.

Yo ! GMG3! Where are you??
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

I have an inert 106 recoilless rifle round used as a doorstop and two brass vases made in Vietnam from expended 105 cases...I must have missed the lamp somewhere, darn it.

Exactly right! You read the manual as a kid? Navy Brat?
I just got out my Bluejackets Manual (19th Ed) Guess I missed that part,
I do find it a funny way of expressing it, but it makes sense.

"The caliber of a gun is its inside diameter, measured from the top of the lands. Caliber is expressed in inches and the length of the gun barrel in calibers."

Also noted the 3"/50cal had a range of 14,000 yds & the projectile weighed 13lbs.
