Was looking for a method/device for making a bullet buttoned PPsh43 pistol compliant with the new AW law. As I was unable to find anything on this , I decided to cook up my own solution - replace the magazine catch spring with a small piece of 3/16" aluminum tubing which is relatively inexpensive and available at most hardware stores.
This is how it works - there is a contoured channel on the face of the PPsh43 mag release that captures the mag catch spring as well as a small recess opposite it - both of which will accommodate the 3/16" tubing. Remove the existing magazine catch spring with forceps. Cut a length of 3/16" tubing down to approximately 17/64". Gently sand and fit until the length of tubing barely slides down into the contoured channel. Between the channel and hole opposite it, the tubing is held in place so that neither shaking the gun nor tapping or wiggling the mag release dislodges it. With the action opened the device can be removed using forceps for when traveling out of state. Easy peasy.
