    03 application question

I live in a small city in Tulare county and was wondering if the Chief Law Enforcement Officer to send a copy of the application should be my city Police Chief or the county Sheriff? My CCW is issued by the county Sheriff because the city doesn't deal with them so would that mean the 03 application should go to the Sheriff? Thanks for any help.

If you have a City Police Dept., it would go to your City Police Chief.

The easy answer is that if you called 911, who would eventually show up? If it is local police, it is the Chief of Police, if it is Sheriff department, then the Sheriff.

It can go to any CLEO having jurisdiction over your home. That includes the head of PD, Sheriff, County Prosecutor, State prosecutor, State Police. I would not send it to our AG though.

In many states when applying for SBR/SBS, Suppressor etc, folks just send them all to the state police chief because they are used to seeing them and wont freak out.

The chief law enforcement officer is the local chief of police, county sheriff, head of the State police, State or local district attorney or prosecutor.

While not required, a cover letter is probably not a bad idea. This is what I did.

            Dear Chief

Enclosed please find, as per federal regulation, a copy of my ATF Form 7CR. You are not required to take any action with respect to the enclosed form. If I can be of any service, or if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the address above.

            Sincerely,

This only applies to landline phones.

Cell phone's will generally go to the CHP dispatch and could be routed most anywhere depending on the type of call.
