    Please Help Clarify ASAP C+R

Going to look at a '55 Russian SKS any minute now. Seller states it is elgible for cash and carry in California, and that no registration is needed to legally purchase/transfer own the weapon. Also state that NO FFL middleman/10 day wait needed, and I DO NOT need a C+R license.

Reading through California and Federal Law, this appears to be correct.

Talking to a friend, he states this is illegal and must go through FFL as he did with his Yugo SKS.

Called a gun shop, they say this was legal until 98/99, and that it must go through FFL.

WTF? can someone help me clarify this? Will I be breaking the law by going through with this transfer?

I do not believe they are licensed. If I buy this gun, will I be able to take it to the shooting range legally? Or will that be putting it at risk of confiscation, non-registered weapon? I want to be able to shoot the damn thing

Also, if you buy it through a dealer then you must DROS.

Most (if not all Yugos) may be C&R federally but they still have to be 50 years or older in CA in order to allow FTF so you'll need to DROS it anyway.

If the seller has a C & R, than you can help him out by making a photocopy of your Drivers License so he can put it in his book.

lol no such thing as a registerd long gun unless its a handgun, who ask's you for registration anyway ? go meet the way in a walmart parking lot give him money, he gives you the rifle, he might want a copy of your DL just for reference and your good to go.

A Yugo 59/66 is not a C&R in Cali by definition. A 1955 russian SKS is C&R in Cali. and FTF is GTG in Cali.

A Yugo 59/66 is a C&R in CA. You just have to go through a FFL. With an FFL03 & COE you DROS and walk. CA recognizes the federal C&R list but just adds their own twist to the mix with < 50 yr old long guns and C&R pistols.

Your friend and the dumb shop you called is wrong.

The seller is right. So go make the buy and be happy knowing you are following the law.

This. I bought my first 2 C&R rifles this way, one of which was a Russian SKS. Go get your rifle, give him a copy of your license and a signed statement saying "I can legally own firearms in California." Or whatever kind of bill of sale the seller has. Just remember that some ranges have round limits for SKS's due to possible slamfire, but go have fun .
