The Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989 banned Colt AR-15 rifles by name in the State of California. California's 2000 Assault Weapons ban went further and banned AR-15s made by other manufacturers by name such as Bushmaster, PWA, and Olympic Arms.

There's multiple bans. Look at the semi auto flowchart at the top of the forum page. If it is listed by name, it's a CA AW.
Example -
Norinco 56S (NOT the SKS) is "preban" but named, no go here in CA
Argentine FMAP FAL is "preban", but not named here in CA, it's good to go provided it follows featureless/fixed mag rules.
Here's one for you - a Soviet military SVD Dragunov is C&R
of course you'd have to do something about the flash hider and PG....and they're $20k...but it's C&R! Does not apply to post CCCP SVD's.

Speaking of C&R AR-15s, here is my Colt AR-15 SP1 made in 1971 that I bought here in Oregon several years ago. It will be C&R in a few years. Slabside lower, upper has no forward assist or case deflector, and the buttplate is solid rubber without a storage compartment door.
