    Black Powder Cleaning Rod

So my father broke out his old CVA 45 cal Kentucky Rifle kit gun this weekend that's been in the cabinet for the better part of 30 years. Had a blast but I need an actual cleaning rod that will reach the breach end of the barrel. I see a few on the market (here's one: http://www.cabelas.com/product/CVA-r...E&gclsrc=aw.ds) and wonder what others are using. The wooden ram rod is not long enough.

Usually the ramrod is long enough once you screw the jag or brush onto the end.

The old CVA stuff has no provision on the ramrod for a jag.

There is a guy on ebay that will make you a custom brass ramrod to fit your gun - meant to fit into where the ramrod normally fits. It is threaded on both ends so you can use whatever you like on it - T-handle, brush, jag etc.
These are what I rock on my MLs. That way I don't ruin the fragile factory rods.

Go too hardware store and get 3/8" dia. Aluminum rod and drill and tap for jag/brushes of your choice.

Make plastic rod guide (44/45 mag/colt case drill thru base) and attach replacement screwdriver handle.

Thanks for the ideas. I also found rod adaptors that will work with cleaning rods that I have.

Check out Track of the Wolf I have one of their nylon ones had it many years works great. I used a strip of white tape to mark the rod showing its not loaded if the tape is above the end of the muzzle it's probably loaded, just a safety thing.

Track of the wolf as suggested above. For cleaning and a range rod, a brass or steel rod with a muzzle guard is best.
