Winchester 1895 Russian Charger Guides - making a set

    Hello all,

After selling my spare set of charger clip guides for a Russian Winchester 1895 musket, a calgunner asked if I could make him a set because of how hard they are to find.

Since I now have a mini mill, and like to work with files, I wanted to give it a shot.

Turns out I didn't have a 1/4" end mill so I haven't drilled and recessed the screw hole yet, but wanted to share progress.
I am using 4140 steel since that is what I had on hand.

Very cool - would be useful for restoring a sporter if they got rid of the original charger guides.

I think that is the case with most sporters. I will post final pics when both sides are ready.

The most difficult thing would be finding the screws. May need to make some as well.

Had a couple of hours after work today, so I finished the other side, drilled holes, and cold blued them both. Now just need to make the screws.

Thanks for sharing the project. Looks like they grew on an 1895 Russian!

Once I have the screws done I will put them onto my rifle and take pics. They will be much "newer" than the receiver.

Maybe some stone washing would be appropriate?

I was making them for someone else. It would be fun to match to the condition of the destination receiver but I haven't seen pictures of it.
