    91 30 stock question

I have a 1938 TULA 91 30. It is a referb but a nice one. My question is it has for all purposes a standard war time stock with one small wood repair at the forend . The escutcheon at the rear has no brass and the front has a 1/2 escutcheon. Typical early - mid war stock. But it has a 02 stamped on the stock which means the stock is Hungarian ? right. Could this rifle be a hungarian referb . why would a Russian referb have a mid war Hungarian stock on it. The Hungarians fought with the germans in WW 2. Did the Germans equip the Hungarians with captured mosin nagant rifles ?.
    Thanks

The Hungarians didn't produce any Mosins until 1952. Their stocks all used the full liner escutcheons. Your stock is Russian. The "02" on your stock is probably some sort of refurb marking.
    C&R nut.

Are you sure it's a 02 or is it just a 2? I've seen Russian refurbs with a 2 on the stock. I'm guessing it's done during the refurb process, maybe a factory code or inspection marking. I've never seen it on an original soviet stock

Hungarians always marked the stocks with a 02

I just looked again. about 3 inches from the butt stock on the top of the stock a 0 above a 2. you can tell they both were stamped at the same time. the 02 is smaller than you see on the side of a Hungarian mosin stock.

Definitely not a Hungarian mark if they're on top of each other. Bring it to the December shoot if you can, James and I can take a look at it in person

a couple of C&R shoots ago i was told by i think gunkraut that it was a Hungarian stock, i did not ask him about anything he just said the stock was Hungarian and had value. I apoligize profusely if it was not Gunkraut. No big deal to me whatever it is. Just a nice looking shooter.
