FN 49 Scope Mount

I have a very nice (no muddy brown Italian stock) Egyptian 8mm with side rail and center swivel and am still kicking myself that I didn't snag a dovetailed base from Northridge when they were in stock years back. Happened across these on Ebay:

I bought the one that uses the ECHO rings - ouch $$. The railed version is still available for anyone inclined to spend.

The seller will d&t 3 set screw holes, I've read of various other methods of securing and am open to all with the possible exception of soldering. Although, if I can do that myself it's not out of the question. I can drill & tap, cut & crown muzzles, build 1911s so I don't rule it out. On the other hand, if red loctite and set screws (to dimple or not dimple?) works I'm fine with that.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

That's him. I think he's going to press with a second addition with more data and photos. Thankfully mines not cut for the Echo mount, so I don't have to ponder that purchase question. PAX

The base arrived yesterday, slid on "just enough" snug and required no stock relief. Finish perfectly matches the rifle, red loctite and the set screws seem like they'll hold everything in place however there's enough rail ahead of the base that two stake marks will keep it positively from moving. I've no idea if this fellow is making any more but while the price is up there I'm glad I bought it. Already scored a 1" ECHO base, will see what I have for suitable vintage scopes.

Considering all the "jury rigging" we sometimes have to do to it's nice to have this just fall in place.

Not to hijack the thread, but we have some good eyes on it. Is this some custom mount?

Interesting. And I'd say it's a single made mount, looks like steel and using set screws into the rear sight base and stripper clip guide. I've seen others similarly made. I think scarcity of the original mounts caused much of the experimentation. The deficiency of a receiver cover mount is that the cover doesn't mate solidly to the receiver. Although the scope probably makes a neat handle for removing the cover for cleaning.
