    M1D

I have a Springfield M1D that I bought from the DCM in about 1995. They had a lottery for a limited amount of these rifles with original scopes.
This rifle is in new condition. I don't know if it is refurbished or new. One odd thing is that the parkerizing is black. I've seen gray and green, but never black.
    Anyone know anything about this?
As a side note, my brother also entered the lottery and received a much worn rifle. Looked like it had been used hard. Lots of nicks and scratches. Reminds me of some of the surplus Mosin's and sks's I've seen.

Can you post a picture? There were some M1Ds that received what is known as Greek Black ( a coating applied while it was in Greece), but there were also some others that have a different black. With a pic it should be easy to see if it is the Greek black or something different.

I knew the Greeks put a black finish on their Garands, what other country did?

        Not good with computers/pictures.
This rifle did come direct from the DCM-as it was called then- shipped from the Anniston Army Depot in Alabama.
It is definitely a matt (parkerized?) black. Not dark gray, etc.
Would a M1D be lent to Greece and then sent back to the US?
I'll look at it again and see if I can describe any marks/stamps.

There were many cases of M1Ds that were returned from Greece, but not all were the infamous Greek Black. The Greek Black had a glossy finish so if yours is a matte finish, it is probably a charcoal black parkerizing. I have seen a couple of late 6 digit M1Ds with a charcoal colored park on them so they are around.

              See here http://www.hotflashrefinishing.com/Parkerizing.htm
              Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Greek Black looks like a shiny baked on black paint.

Does the paperwork indicate 1996 lottery or another date. 1996 had a lot of Toole rebuilds which were grey.

I dug up the paper work.
Received in Oct '95 from the Defense Distribution Depot Anniston Alabama.
Price, $650 delivered to my door. I assume they are worth more now?
Would shooting it lower the value?
