Post WWII battle rifles

I know that technically these rifles aren't C&R because the receivers were made less than fifty years ago, but the design and initial fielding of them was in the fifties and early sixties. In my book that makes them kinda-sorta C&R. Also they represent the last of the full power battle rifles before armies changed over to smaller calibers and universally switched to plastic stocks.

I just picked up the bottom rifle yesterday and installed the of wood furniture last night.

I'm starting to appreciate the FAL more and more. Is that an actual giggle switch on the M14?

FAL most comfortable, M14 most accurate, G3 most European.

The last of the elegant rifles made of wood and steel. The AK would also fit in well with these rifles.

As to the FAL, There are some which are Curios & Relics. The very first imports were what is called"G" series. They were imported as early as 1959 and the final imports were in 1963 when the ATF stopped importation.

From September 5, 1959 to January 10, 1963, the Browning Arms Company, St Louis, Missouri, imported 1,836 FAL rifles in caliber 7.62mm from Fabrique Nationale, Herstal, Belgium. Subsequent to January 10, 1963, the Bureau classified this rifle as a machine gun. However it was determined that the 1,863 rifles imported by Browning would be exempt from the provisions of the National Firearms Act. Additionally twelve FN FAL rifles were imported through an administrative error in 1974. These 12 rifles are also exempt from the provisions of the National Firearms Act.


The reason for the import ban was the G series rifles were made on Full Auto receivers...

The BATFE allowed all rifles imported up to that time to be amnestied and be fully legal. They did specifically list them by serial number in the ATF list of C&R firearms.

Below is a pic of mine, which i inherited from my Father. He bought it back in 1962. He fired 20 rounds through it, cleaned and greased it, and put it away in it's box...

Some G series Fal's have wood hand guards and some like mine have the green fiber hand guards.
