CMP Winchester Garand

Here's a look at the Winchester Garand that arrived recently from the CMP.

It is a Service Grade, and this is what it looked like right out of the box.

It has a SA 54 barrel which is essentially new, and a SA bolt. I haven't taken it apart, but I doubt there are any other Winchester parts. Looks like it will shoot just fine. I haven't made up my mind about the aesthetics of the new birch stocks vs. the beat walnut, but the new ones do provide a wickedly tight lockup.

Mine is black with a WRA bolt and Cliplatch. I sold the birch stock set for $130.00.

You sure that's birch? Looks like walnut to me. I thought CMP uses American black walnut for their new stocks?

IIRC, I believe if you order from the E-Store, they are Walnut, If you get a SG, they are Birch.
The ones on the winnies are Birch with a dark stain

It is a birch stock, but it has nice grain and a good color finish on it.

The receiver looks like it was worked over in the arsenal, but I'm happy with the park job and color.

I already have one "Black Beauty".

Is CMP shipping SG garands with a new stock?

Many of the Service Grades are being shipped with new CMP marked birch stocks. They don't have enough decent walnut GI stocks left.

Field or Rack grades are more likely to get GI walnut, but they will likely be pretty beat up.

Thanks for the info. I just recived an e-mail confirmation today from CMP stating that my order has been received. Can't wait to see what my HRA service grade will look like out of the box.
