sks failure to eject part 2

after ny earlier note abt. my yugo sks, i did some research and installed a different (russian) complete bolt assembly - went to range - shot abt. 30 rds ejecting ok then started fte again (at least stopped breaking or bending firing pins) - next step - remove gas tube and piston - clean and reinstall - back to range - shoots ok as single shot but won't eject - any ideas would be greatly appreciated - ron

i would imagine if you've significantly cleaned the gas tube and piston and they're in good shape i would then look at both the extractor as well as the gas valve. clean them thoroughly.

I'm not familiar with your inital post on the FTE with your Yugo sks.

But the mention of bent and broken firing pins tells me that you're likely using modern Russian or Ukranian commercial ammo-- possibly Tula, White Box, or Wolf?

Over the past decade (possibly longer), the brands listed above have gained a reputation for damaging sks bolt assemblies. If you have saved any of the spent casings (good idea to do always), check for primer damage: i.e. deep strikes or pierced primers.

As for the FTE's: can you link the old post? This subject comes up often on other forums.

would like to know:
Is the FTE problem isolated to failures to EJECT?
Or are there any failures to EXTRACT involved?
Are you using an aftermarket high-cap magazine?
Is this an M59 or a 59/66?

Yugo sks....like a big 5 one with the grenade launcher removed and a heavy muzzle device welded on? IIRC those have a gas shut off? It wouldn't be turned off or 1/2 way, would it?

i've heard that the gas valve can be occluded by carbon or grease...and that the seal/ring might be damaged...so cleaning or replacing can often help.

agree with above, more information characterizing the problem would help
