S&W Model 28 .357 - C&R?

Are the S&W Model 28 .357s made before 1959 considered Curio and Relic simply because they're over 50 years old?

If so, I suppose the Serial Number would be the way to determine what year it was built, correct?

I was told that to stay out of trouble make sure the firearm is 51 years old to be called C&R unless you can find the exact date of manufacturing.
Yes this is using the serial number for dating it.

Before 1959 would make it more than 50 years old and thus C&R.

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson
Serial numbers for N frame production in 1958/1959 were S182000-S194499
Serial numbers for N frame production in 1959/1960 were S194500-S206999

If you stay below S194500 or very close to it you should be fine calling it a C&R

Just FYI, C&R pistols must still go through an FFL01, The only benefit is the whole off roster thing... But otherwise in CA, a C&R pistol is treated as any other pistol (as opposed to a long gun which is cash and carry). I'm sure you know this, I'd just hate to see anyone get in trouble over something like this.
