Lugers and P38's into California OK?

First off, I do not have a FFL03 or a COE. They are so on my list of to dos but I don't have them yet.

Second, I am contemplating buying a Luger and a P38. I am looking at simpsons because they have a broad selection and a reputation for accurate grading.

Can I purchase and ship these two pistols into California? They are clearly not on the roster but I am unclear as to whether they would both be considered C&R and thus exempt from roster restrictions.

Yes they are C&R, you can transfer one per 30 days unless you buy them from a CA resident.

      Great, thanks!

I kinda figured but in doing research I ran into a few gunbroker sellers specifically refusing to sell/ship P38's to CA and couldn't tell if they were just wankers or if it was legit.

No problem. Just make the transaction properly.

If you want really good advice on either or those two pistols, join the Luger forum.

Many ffls From other states are ignorant when it comes to dealing with cal laws and their way of dealing with it, is not to. Sad thing is they've blocked potential sellers From trading with other collectors

Yeah, I had assumed that it was just not wanting to deal with it all that drove the refusal to sell into California. It does seem like a flawed business model, one in which a large market is shut out of buying your product.

If you do not have a money concern and want high quality then Simpsons is a good place to buy your guns. If you just want a nice shooter or lower grade collectible then try Check Point Charlie.

Auction arms.com look up lock stock and barrel.
Calif based seller that has lots of vintage items in their auctions. Often the stuff goes very reasonable.

+1 for Checkpoint Charlie. . . he'll work with California buyers and is a real decent guy.

Where a bouts in California do you live? My advice to you is try to connect with a collector near you and see if he would invite you over to look at a few. There is nothing like handling, breaking down, and seeing all the different manufacturers. The PO8 in particular had numerous builders with the early ones being strawed and rust blued and later salt blued. I was lucky enough when I started collecting to have a known collector do this for me which really helped me find my way. Curt

I'd love to buy a Luger, especially, DWM build around WWI
