Ammo for K11 available?

Is this ammo available and is it the same ammo as the k31? Does the k11 use 7.5x55?

Yes, any GP11 equivalent will do. Prvi Partizan is a good choice and offers boxer-primed and reloadable brass. 7.5x55 is available from most online sources and some local stores as well. Ammo Bros carries some of this stuff, although you may want to check your local shops before making the drive, unless you travel at work.

Fact of life these days buddy, California sucks and everybody knows it. There's no restriction on ammo shipping yet, but it's going to happen in the near future. Some sellers are just hedging their bets.

Order from Grafs, Natchez, MidSouth, or any number of other distributors. Definitely plan to reload because the idiots haven't managed to pass legislation banning that yet so we'll have a little longer. 7.5 swiss uses .308 bullets so it's an easy proposition and powder that works well is also easy to come by. GP11 ammo is awesome but with a little work, you can make your own that's every bit as good AND reloadable.

At first glance 7.5 Swiss is easy to relaod. A .308 projectile, large rifle primer, and most .30 caliber powders will work so anyone who reloads 308 or 30-06 has most of the components already. But there are a few gotcha's.

First is the OAL issue, the Swiss 174 grain projectile has a very sharp taper so just using any other 174/175 grain projectile & matching the OAL probably won't fit. It would have to be pushed in much more. Stay away from the "fat" projectiles. Even when I use 168 or 150 grain projectiles, I have to load slightly shorter than OAL data to get them to fit.

Then there's the issue that chambers in 1911 vs K31 are slightly different. They'll all fire GP11 just fine, but the advice about keeping brass segregated by gun is very appropriate in this case. Also, the RCBS dies are general-purpose so don't get them if you have a K31. Use the Redding dies specific for the K31 instead.

Finally is the issue that there's a dearth of powder data for the cartridge. Not a deal breaker because there's usually enough to get a starting load. For powders with no data, my process was to start with low charges for 308 data (cartridge dimensions are very similar) & work up from there.

I use the RCBS dies for my K31 and they work just fine. I'm sure the Redding dies are better for the K31 but with them being almost three times more expensive I couldn't justify the cost for target shooting.

RCBS FL die works just as well as a Redding die.

Since brass has to be FL sized, just buy more boxer brass (Norma or PPU).
