What do you mean by nice? An all matching example or a refurbished example by the Russians, etc? You can find Russian captures on online sites such as classicarms.us, empire arms, and others.

J&G has some Russian capture K98's. They are real 98's but have been force matched and re-blued. A good deal for $250. I have one and it is a great shooter.

Or you could go to mitchell's Mauser's and get a completely reworked k98 for $500. These rifles are more than likely Russian capture rifles all so. Don't be fooled by their M48 Yugo Mauser's - they are not German or WWII or otherwise.

I second that. My Russian capture 98k shoots VERY well. Definitely my favorite rifle so far.

You can also check out Southern Ohio gun as their mailer always has some K98s.

When I mean nice I mean somewhat matching numbers and and okay condition. Basically a good representative of what the germans used in wwii, not so much a great shooter.

Problem is that lots of people are looking for the same type of rifle. Gunbroker.com is a start, followed by the trader forum ads on Gunboards.com and gk43.com: http://www.gk43forum.com/forum/index.php

You are looking at $500 for a matching rifle with a mismatched bolt or $900++++ for a matching rifle.

I'm an RC fan, making nice looking representative rifles by swapping stocks so that they are period correct for the receivers, stripping off the Russian shellac and cold bluing the electro-penciled numbers.

Be aware that there are plenty of fakes out there with renumbered parts...

I got my K98 from J&G Sales and it is quite nice. You can tell it is a RC, but otherwise it is very good. I don't know if I will change it back to look like a German issue as it would lose some of its history that way.

I found an all matching bcd 4 kar98k at my local gun shop. These easily go for over $1000 and there are plenty of forgeries. You need to do a lot of research and become friendly with the shop employees and I'm sure you'll eventually find a good example.

If you don't want to spend that much then I would recommend finding a bolt mismatch rifle.

                      good advice above.

there are many dealers or online sources that you can call up and order a russian capture k98. however, there are no such ready sources for non-russian capture k98's.

online auctions sites such as gunbroker will usually have several non-rc's at any given time. the problem is the majority of them are not as advertised and you must have done a lot of homework or have help from those with some k98 background or risk making a bad purchase. another problem with gunbroker is when a decent one does show up, there will be many experienced (as well as inexperienced collectors with more $ than sense) ready to get into a bidding war with you.

if you just want one, non-russian capture, partly or mostly matching gun that is representative, these can pretty easily be found. and a fair value is between $400-$700 depending on condition, type of mismatch, etc. i've sold purchased several such guns over the past couple of years within that price range.
head over to the k98 section of the gunboards forums. do some reading over a few days. try to get involved there, try to meet a member or few and see if you can get a lead that way. buying from other collectors is a great source for these. a completely un-messed with and matching one is a bit harder to get but a mismatch such as a bolt only mismatch is not hard. the majority of mine are from other collectors.
as suggested above, local gunshops are a source, but it is very hit or miss but with persistence and some luck it can happen. though problem here is you still have to know what you are looking for as the gun may also not be as advertised.
as mentioned, expect $400-$700 for mismatched and $1000+ for matching.
                      good luck.

I have a (my grandpa) carry home that is my best shooter...

Kinda a bummer he had it sporterized in the 1950's but it was done by a expert and it's clean.

It is a killer hunting gun and my favorite of all time.

It's got a little dropping power...

When you say MM - do you mean Mitchell's Mausers?

                            Is this a joke post?

I was just about to ask the exact same thing. Is your bolt polished and in the white, SVT_Fox? If it is, brace yourself for some bad news.
