Remove stuck bronze cleaning brush from muzzleloader barrel.

A brilliant solution (by Roundballer) I saw this morning reading forum on another site:

    " Find a spent .270 or 30-06 case.
Cut the case off at the shoulder.
Use a pair of needle nose pliers as a forcing wedge and bell the open end of the case a little
Find a nail and a rock, punch the primer out.
Find a length of strong string and feed it through the primer hole.
Tie a large knot in the end of the string, and pull it into the case so the string extends from the base of the case.
Drop the case open-end first into the barrel with the string extending out the muzzle.
Use the ram rod to drive the case over the brush.
Use the string to pull the case (with the brush) back out.
I have done this on the range with nothing else but what I could scrounge and the Leatherman on my belt. "

Might be handy to know with any gun that you can't get behind the chamber to push something stuck out the barrel. Traditional muzzle loaders have breaches much harder to open than on inline BP firearms of course. With some it's impossible.

Months later the guy (Roundballer) added to the old thread that he had received many emails since thanking him. From people with the problem googling around and saw that forum thread.

My son has a Thompson Center Hawken muzzleloader. He was cleaning it and the wire brush broke free of the cleaning rod and stuck in the barrel. Any idea how to get it out? Being that it is a side lock, he can't simply push it out the back of the barrel like an in-line. Thanks.

Better yet; prepare one beforehand and keep it in your kit - better to have and not need than to need and not have.

I've never had a stuck brush...
I wonder if the threads gave out...?

My question: Why are you brushing a Muzzle loader? Cleaning is with soapy water and a wet patch and a jag. I modify a perc nipple with a 1/4-28 allen bolt drilled and soldered a nipple for a piece of tubing going into an old gator aid bottle. Warm soapy water will clean them in minutes
