I'm not too sure you'd want a 7.62x25 as a HD round. It's known as a great penetrator...as in through the perp then through your wall. High velocity (~1600fps) coupled with a small 30 caliber FMJ bullet ensures something else will be hit, when you consider a HD distance is gonna be less than 10 yards.

i have one and i would say nay. its a fun gun but i don't see it as very ergo it has a horrible trigger, the harrington firing pin helps it but possibly disables the decocker. i mean you could do it but i would not.

I really dig 7.62.x25. It's a really *****in' round. But probably not appropriate for home defense, as it's really, really fast, and penetrates like crazy.

Are you looking for an inexpensive HD gun? If so, check out the Makarov. 9x18 Makarov is a potent round, and Makarovs are dead nuts reliable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makarov_PM

CZ-82 is chambered in 9x18 Makarov, the CZ-83 is in .380 ACP. Both are good guns, from what I've heard.

What's your budget for an HD gun?

Then a CZ82 should suit you quite well. They're classified as a C&R by the Fed's so it's exempt from being listed on the handgun roster. A number of the "surplus" store have them. Check J&G Sales or AIM Surplus, I think both of them have CZ82's available right now.

There were actually a few CZ83's chambered in 9x18 as well, the old makarov.com website had CZ make a special run of them a few years ago.

CZ-82, Makarov, maybe a 38 special revolver. Heck, you might even find a CZ-75B for that price. I picked one up for $299 about a year ago.

Unless the perp breaking into your house is wearing a kevlar vest, a CZ-52 is not a good choice. The sights are tiny and the grip angle does not makes it the most natural pointing pistol. It does penetrate very well, potentially too good for HD. I shot a vest with a chest plate in it and it had no problem penetrating both the vest and the chest plate.

what was the rating of the vest and plate?

Silver bear has a reliable hollow point in 9x18. I don't think there is a 7.62x25 self defense round, and the fmj will go in, and out, several layers, several times.

They make JHP and magsafes in 7.62x25. And they also make 9x19 barrels for the CZ-52. I like them, but I don't know if I would use it for home defense. Not unless I had to.

The CZ-52 is a fun gun to shoot, but an 85gr FMJ bullet travelling at 1750ft/sec will penetrate BGs and walls. Far from ideal.

I have the 9x19mm barrel conversion which works 100% and is accurate enough, but the trigger slap is just plain awful. The CZ-52 is just a fun gun in it's original caliber and an unremarkable pistol in 9mm.

You have better options for a milsurp that can function as a HD pistol, such as the Walther P1 or Sig Sauer P6, both in 9mm.

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

but i dont want to kill my neighbors......

im also going to get a shotgun for HD............
