What is this rifle?? Enfield or Ishapore?

What is this thing?? The Seller said it’s a Enfield “India” pattern S.M.L.E. converted to 7.62 nato. I think it’s an Ishapore 2A1 built in the sixties in 7.62 to start with….gun is dated 1964. I bought it because I wanted an Enfield, and in some ways it is, but its really an Ishapore right??
Its in beautiful shape, can’t wait to try it..

It's an Ishapore. Based on the date it could be a 2A. I think the difference is the sight ladder gradiations. Also it could have a hi-cap mag that holds 12 boolits. PAX

Does a hi-cap really matter if its for a bolt gun?

It's california....if it came with a shoe box it couldn't exceed 10 rounds.

I'll have him ship the mag to a third party 10 round converter third party to block it and tack it closed.

The square ears on the nose cap are a definite clue.

Squared off magazine and being 7.62, it is a Ishapore 2A.

Wouldn't the Ishy screw in the side also be a tell tale sign?

Did I read that correctly in CA you can't even have over 10 rounds in a bolt gun? So no Mauser Trench Mags? What about tube fed lever actions rifles that aren't .22? The legislators in NJ and CA must never speak. They would have a field day comparing notes and forcing the worst anti-laws of each state on us.

I'm a Kommiefornia resident and I have a lever action that holds more than ten rounds. And it's not .22lr

So 10 round capacity doesn't apply to tube fed lever regardless of caliber size?

Is previous poster correct that only .22 Tube Fed Bolt action can have more than 10 rounds?

Definitely an Ishapore rifle. Congrats, it looks like a winner for sure.

I don't think any were converted I think all were purpose built. As for magazines unless tubular any over 10 round are illegal. Some choose to ignore this because C&R or antique. Do so at your own risk. This is a common problem I see with Ishapore 7.62x51 Enfields and 1889 Schmidt Rubins both have 12 round magazines from the original manufacturers.

I suppose an 1889 magazine can be blocked. 10 round magazines exist for the Ishapore.
