No 5 (Jungle Carbine) bad trigger guard causing trigger problems?

I hadn't done anything with it until today. Wanted to get some range time tomorrow.



Dry firing it, I noticed it lacked the 2-stage trigger. When I relieved the pressure on the action screw, the trigger seemed a bit more normal.

Also noticed the trigger guard screw was a real bear to get out, as the trigger guard was jammed against it.

On closer inspection, it looks like the trigger guard is bent on one side.

Magazine locks OK. Presumably it functions OK, because the seller mentioned firing it.

any suggestions on fixing it? Replace the trigger guard? Leave it as is if it works otherwise? I'm generally not really super comfortable with triggers that don't work as intended.

I scavenged the OK trigger guard from my Savage No4mk1 (which has excessive headspace - I should really stop buying broken rifles) and the trigger works perfectly.... But the magazine isnt tight at the front.

So, at least I know it's -just- the trigger guard that's a problem.

magazine may not be tight because the trigger guard isn't as close to the action as designed to be. Qis there a metal bushing / cylinder around the Main screw that stops the guard from crushing the wood if its overtightened? I had to file the cylinder down so it was perfectly flat at both ends.

I would straighten the trigger guard. But it would be important to make sure the wood is not damaged as well.
The trigger guards are very soft.

Here is a picture of shape. Yours seems to be bent pretty badly. Look how straight these are all the way to the trigger pin area.

I'm going to attempt to straighten out the trigger guard n a little bit later.

I ran it with my no4 trigger guard and it ran really really nice. More accurate than I expected considering I can't even hold an Enfield properly. Definitely a fun rifle one of my favorites already.


*Edit: I hammered the trigger guard out on my anvil with a rubber mallet. Trigger seems to work okay now, thanks!

Glad you were able to fix it. I had an Enfield trigger guard that was bent and was surprised at how easy it was to bend back into shape.

I can't really tell from your photo, does the No5 trigger guard have the wasp waist at the front? You probably noticed that your No4 mk1 trigger guard doesn't have that feature. It was done to help lighten the gun.

It does. I was wondering if that was part of lightening efforts.
The no5 handles great.
