    Type 53 Mosin Bolt Compatibility

Hi guys I recently acquired a T53 Carbine. The numbers are matching except the butt plate. I also have a M91/30. After cleaning the T53, I tried to stick the bolt into the 91/30 because I read online that all the Mosin bolts are interchangeable.

However, the T53 bolt would not get into the 91/30. I then tried the other way around, 91/30 bolt in T53, no problem. It seems that the opening at the end of 91/30 upper assembly where it firstly meets the bolt is too narrow for T53 bolt.

Is this something I should raise concern? What is the cause/story behind this issue?

    Thank you for any inputs!

No issue. Just slight machining differences. Don't look for problems which don't exist.
    Poke'm with a stick!

      As said, machining differences.

I had a very sticky bolt head in a Finn M91, swapped bolt heads with another and both rifles worked and headspaced fine.

I have a Finn 1898 Tula M91 with a Chinese T53 bolt in it oddly. Done here of course, but it functions great.
      C&R nut.

Looking forward to a range report when you have a chance to take the T53 out. Remember, Mosins are built to exacting tolerances...on precision machinery!

Still in the process of refinishing the stock. Should take about two weeks. Will msg photo of the finished product.

My 1954 T 53 is my best Mosin, Metal finish and bore are great. And the cycling of the bolt is like a 1903a3.
