Calling all K98 experts--Need help identifying this Mauser

Came across a K98K online. Even though there are no peening or crosses, and the parts are all matching, the stock doesn't look right to me (shellac'd?). Probably an RC?

    thanks

Russian capture is all mix-master and electro pencil. I don't think that is RC, way too many matching parts.

Looks to be renumbered if you ask me. The other one the DOT looks better.

The stock makes me suspicious, looks like Russian Stamped serial number was ground off the left side of the butt.

There are fakes out there too. But I'm not much of an expert at all. Mausers are like a huge pit of fakes and too expensive stuff for me to get into. You need to really know your stuff to not get burned.

Fake numbers everywhere, fake stock proof, reblued everything, prob RC stock.
            a disaster.

the dot 44 'a' block is bad too. not original stock. stock is probably a postwar czech stock. front band definately not original.

and that's even without pictures of the bolt which I bet is not matching either.

only part that could possible be correct is the trigger guard. but with this mess, who cares?
              stay away from both.

Even as an owner of several K98's I am hesitant to authenticate or dismiss some of the stuff out there. There were repro proofs floating around recently that could only exist for the purpose of faking up K98's. I do concur with most of the comments above regardihg renumbering and likely sanding or recartouching of stocks.

I would buy either rifle if they were cheap and use them as shooters though. Mixmasters, captures, and reworks are much more common than legit matching bringbacks. I have rebuilt K98's from entirely spare parts and a barreled receiver and ended up with good shooters. No one should ever misrepresent or apply fake markings to anything unless it is clearly sold as such.

                  Agreed ^^

I really don't like the numbers on the front band. It looks like there's a 9 under the 0.

That thing is about as humped-up as they come. Just look at the left side of the butt stock...the renumbered barrel band...yikes.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

It seems like a complete scrub, the stock is heavily messed with. Much of the metal looks to be fishy.

I'd go to k98k.com for a complete rundown, but it's one of those gun show queens that some fool has a $3000 price tag on waiting for a sucker. Not a deaths head level scrub but designed to fool the casual buyer.

Thanks for all your comments. Has anyone bought from that website? Had my doubts when I first saw the all-matching fake numbers and shellac'd stock. I think the red background is to make the shellac less conspicuous--pretty sneaky!
