    Great experience at Cabelas today

Stopped in at Cabelas Reno while on business just to browse and spotted a S&W Model 1905 1st change in pretty good condition and marked down. Had some discounted gift cards on me and a coupon so I went for it.

As the guy is writing it up he tells me it was just reduced in price again before I arrived. It was $599 originally, marked on sale $459 and then he tells me it is now $299. I got it for $240 out the door including tax, after the coupon and actual price paid for the gift cards.

I had already sent my C&R in advance for them to confirm and keep on file. No 4473 required, they just let me leave with the gun - the way it should be!

Also saw a nice 2" Colt Commando that was super tempting but at $1800 I'll be happy with my 4" Commando.

I'll post pics when I can.

Sounds like a good time, I always try to stop by the Reno Cabella's when I'm there.

Quite a deal and transacted the way it should always be without all of the BS hassles.

I saw that a few weeks back. Nice deal. I ended up getting a non-C & R Colt SAA in 44 Special.

A few gun shows back it was posted that Cabelas had to verify C & R FFLs before selling, it left the impression verification was required for each transaction. At the last show I stopped in and learned it was a one time deal so I left mine with them.

It's all confusing as 'H'.. I was under the impression that all out of state handgun purchases, whether C&R or current, had to go through an FFL1 with a full 10 day/DROS. An out of state C&R long gun can be carried into CA and reported via the acquisition form within 5 days by a FFL3 holder, or a C&R long gun can be shipped to an FFL1, do the DROS, and then picked up...10day exempt with an FFL3. I think???

Great find and deal! Funny, since I live in Nevada, I've asked them before if they can keep a record of my C&R on file, and they told me "We don't do that".

So if I see a C&R firearm I like in another state, they'll sell it to me with just an 03? Or do they still check for a COE.

Provided you are physically in that state, yes, just a C&R FFL. California law doesn't apply in Nevada. You just need to register it and pay the fee when you cross the CA frontier.

I asked them the same thing, and got the same answer, but it was a year ago. Then again, it doesn't really matter for me, with CCW there is no background check and fee, just a few more minutes doing the 4473 on the computer.

CCW's are not all powerful. A lot of states recognize every state and others operate off a select list. California is not on Nevada's approved list.

NV CCW means no NV background check, and no $25 background check fee. I don't think any out of state CCW does that.

CA CCW is irrelevant, even if NV did recognize it for carry, as you can't buy any gun on a 4473 outside of CA.

If you have an 03 FFL, and the gun qualifies, you can do a FFL to FFL transfer, with the caveat that at this particular store, they require a call to ATF License Branch to verify. This means if you are going on a weekend (any time other than east coast weekday business hours) you need to send it in advance.

Nice! I always try to stop by Cabela's in Glendale, AZ when I'm in the valley.

They explained to me they keep them on file but different employees use a different method of filing and that makes it hard to find them

I sent them an email with my signed FFL as a PDF, and a few days later they emailed me a reply that said:

Thank you for your inquiry. I have verified your C&R license and it is now on file here at this store. We look forward to conducting business.
