True that yours doesn't look as nice, however your rifle as a whole is MUCH nicer than mine because it looks like the finish is original.

Not yet. I still need to grind a tiny bit of the mount to center the windage on the scope. I believe this is common on the repro mounts.

I have some new production Barnaul 7.62x54R I plan to try out once I get it zeroed to see if it shoots better groups than the surplus ammo.

It is an original and I have used it on some 400y targets but 200y is our normal playground for paper targets.

your stock just shows what good preperation can do for the finished work.

Very nice looking PUs. Here's one that I got from Samco:

              As received:

And with new scope and mount:

Does Samco still have the scopeless PUs? How much do they run for?

Yeah, and they are the real deal too. They are Russian WWII production that were sent to Tito's communist partisans in 1944. After the war, they were put into storage with the scopes and mounts removed unfortunately. This is a problem because the mounts were fitted to each gun individually. If you pick up a repro mount, expect to do some fitting to get it lined up right on the pins and with the screw holes.

I don't know what the condition is of the remaining Samco rifles. I'd give them a call of check over on the sniper forum on gunboards.

There is another distributor that was selling genuine mosin snipers about a year ago in the $800 range, but I can't remember which one it was off hand.

I agreed 100%. Samco's Yugoslavian PU sniper is a great deal if you got a PU base, mount and scope. My Samco mosin sniper has the sweetest trigger of all my mosins. I picked up the 1944 Izhvesk sniper from Samco about two years ago and fitted it with a set of post war base/mount and real PU scope. Took two hours to shim and dial in the scope. It shoots very well.

RGuns.net sells real PU snipers for $800. I have no experience with these snipers, but you can read about them at other forums.
